Some people come to St Thomas looking for adventure, some are looking for fun in the sun, yet others are drawn by the crystal clear water and a different pace of life. Then there are those that are drawn by the challenge of a beautiful golf experience.
Mahogany RunWhen you look from high above the Mahogany Run Golf Course the green fairways and lush vegetation calls you. The course is fairly wide open but don’t let that fool you. There are blind corners, it’s thick off the fairway, and of course there’s the world’s famous Devil’s Triangle. The 13th, 14th, and 15th holes have stolen more on my golf balls than I would like to admit.
There are some die hard golfers here in St Thomas and you can find a skins game twice a week and periodic tournaments that are challenging and entertaining. Recently, I played in the Pumpkin Run golf tournament. It was a shotgun start and the course was filled with folks there to be challenged by a world class golf course and camaraderie with friend and acquaintances. The St Thomas / St John Ladies Golf Association hosted a scramble that was, I’m sure enjoyed by all. Not everybody came in under par but I think the folks at the course are just dynamite people.
From the Pro Shop to the folks to maintain the course and prepare the course for the tournament each and every one of them were happy and excited to make your day just as pleasant and enjoyable as possible.
Of course much credit belongs to the host at the STSJLGA.
Along the fairways and hills that surround the course there are houses and condos that have stunning views either over the ocean or over the course. Real estate in St Thomas in this area is so sought after because of the views and the proximity to the golf course. It’s a gated community and they take their residents privacy and safety seriously. If you have a chance you ought to take a few minutes to arrange to view one of those properties. They’re perfect getaways for stateside residents to come, relax, and let their hair down. Those properties can be a haven for folks that just pick up their troubles in an old kit bag and mosey on down to the island to make a life for themselves here.
With golf, fine dining, and a really inviting atmosphere, Mahogany Run can be a place where you can seriously consider hanging your hat.
